Heroin addict steals €2k worth of cosmetics - court hears

A chronic heroin addict who stole almost €2,500 worth of goods has been given a five month prison sentence.

She has 120 previous convictions, 80 per cent of them for theft and is currently serving a sentence.

Margaret McDonagh (28 ) stole €917.47 and €1,371 worth of L’Oreal cosmetics from Dunnes Stores, Mullingar on two separate occasions this summer. She also took just over €200 worth of similar products from Boots. Less than half of the property was recovered.

Mr Robert Marren told the court that his client, who has an address at Bay 27, St Christopher’s Site, Finglas was stealing to feed her habit.

Judge Lucey imposed a five month sentence relating to the theft of €1,371 goods which were not recovered, saying her addiction could be dealt with in prison.
