Eirin to travel for treatment

Little Eirin O’Connor-Nolan will take to the skies this weekend, as her family accompany her to the Dominican Republic to undergo treatment for an extremely rare chromosomal disorder.

Eirin, who turned four last week, will undergo brain stem cell treatment in the coming days, which it is hoped will help improve her quality of life. The four-year-old suffers from a combination of Grand mal epilepsy, hypotonia in her muscles, and a rare chromosome disorder, and has never walked or talked.

Mammoth fundraising efforts, including a gala concert held last Sunday in the Annebrook House Hotel and featuring local band The Aftermath, are to thank for providing the means for Eirin to make the trip along with her mother Lydia O’Connor, father David Nolan, and grandmother Liz O’Connor.
