Removal of cancer services imminent

Surgical and diagnostic breast cancer services at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar will be transferred to Galway in a few weeks, a meeting of the HSE West forum were told this week. Initially the services were to be moved in September, then the HSE said it would be December but now confirmation has been given that Mayo patients will start attending the centre of excellence in Galway in a few weeks. However no definitive date has been given for the move.

An Garda Siochana’s Mayo policing plan 2009 was discussed by some members of Mayo County Council this week who felt that the mixing of certain alcoholic drinks was driving people wild and needed to be studied in depth by the Government.

Minor final to be televised

The All Ireland minor football championship final replay between Mayo and Tyrone will be broadcast on RTÉ TV, Radio and RTÉ.ie from 2.15pm tomorrow (Saturday).

Des Cahill will be joined by Anthony Tohill and Kevin McStay for live coverage of the replay on RTÉ Two television, while on RTÉ Radio 1 Brian Carthy provides commentary during Saturday Sport (2-6pm). The match will also be streamed live within the island of Ireland on www.rte.ie/sport.
