Mayo County Council brings third level grant information to Facebook

An information page has been set up to assist students and their parents through the application process for a higher education grant. Campaign to call McHale Park stand after Tony McHugh

A new group on Facebook has been set up to call the new stand in McHale Park after the late Anthony McHugh. The page, which was set up during the week, has more than 450 members so far and was started following a discussion on the popular Castlebar website www.castlebar.ie, where posters called for the stand to be named after him.

Positive meeting with NRA for road projects

A delegation from the Roads and Transportation SPC had a positive meeting with the National Roads Authority recently, where the NRA gave its commitment to the N5/N26 projects in the county.

At the SPC’s meeting on Monday, chair of the SPC, Councillor Jarlath Munnelly, said that “it was not a negative meeting” with the NRA as there was a commitment given by the roads authority on the N5/N26 projects, however Cllr Munnelly was informed that these projects will depend on budgetary constraints.

No to school bus charges

The proposal to introduce school bus charges of €500 per annum for primary school children who are currently entitled to free travel and an additional €200 per secondary school child has been condemned.

Sinn Fein councillor Rose Conway-Walsh has suggested the move could force families unable to pay the fees to take their children out of school and result in students falling out of the education system.
