Man killed in St Patrick’s Day accident

A 38-year-old Sligo man was killed following a fatal traffic collision on St Patrick’s Day. Matthew Carden, Townalanghta, Culleens, Co Sligo, was struck by a car at Quignalecka, Ballina, at 10.25pm and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to Mayo General Hospital.

Drink driving and public order arrests on St Patrick’s Day

There were 12 public order arrests across the county during the St Patrick’s Day festivities. Three people each arrested in each of Castlebar, Ballina, and Claremorris, with two arrested in Westport, and one in Swinford. There were also three people arrested for drink driving offences on the bank holiday with one being arrested in Charlestown and two in Castlebar.

Gardaí looking for information after thefts

Gardaí in Castlebar are looking for assistance from the public who may have information on thefts that occurred at well known walking spots around the town. On St Patrick’s Day a woman parked her car on the Mast Road, Glenisland, at 12.45pm and when she returned after a walk at 3.15pm she found the lock had been interfered with on the driver’s side of the car and a mobile phone and wallet taken. On the Burren Road, Castlebar, another woman who went for a walk at 1.30pm found the lock on her car had been jimmied and an apple iPod and camcorder stolen from her car when she returned at 2.30pm. Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact the gardaí in Castlebar.
