RTÉ personality Anne Doyle announced as Valentine’s Candlelight Ball guest speaker

Popular broadcaster Anne Doyle has been announced as the guest speaker for the 18th Annual Valentine’s Candlelight Ball which is taking place in Breaffy House Resort on Saturday, February 10 in aid of the Western Care Association. The retired RTÉ Newsreader is a proud Wexford woman who started her career in television at the national broadcaster in 1978.

Since retiring in 2011 Anne has devoted much of her time to pursuing her passions which are reading, politics, history, travel and supporting Wexford GAA. Adding to this she gives time to UNICEF in her role as ambassador and continues with her long term commitment to the Kildare Animal Foundation.

Welcoming the announcement, Chairperson of the Castlebar Voluntary Branch of Western Care, Caroline Costello said she was delighted that someone with such a high profile as Anne Doyle would be attending and speaking at this year’s 18th annual ball.

“Anne Doyle is a darling of Irish broadcasting and we are really looking forward to welcoming her to Breaffy for this prestigious event. She is a household name and has an obviously caring nature which she fulfils through her ambassadorial role with UNICEF and her work with the Kildare Animal Foundation among her many other commitments,” added Caroline.

This year’s ball will be televised for Sky TV and will be aired shortly afterwards on Henry McGlade’s popular magazine show The Irish At Home and Abroad on Sky 212 and Freesat 161. The show can be viewed every Thursday night at 7pm.

The ball was launched on December 30 in the TF Royal Hotel by country music star Nathan Carter. Speaking at the launch Nathan said: “I’m in a privileged position whereby I get to meet and play to thousands of people across the world every year. Many of my fans have learning and intellectual difficulties as well as other disabilities and I’m so honoured that my music is a source of joy for them. I’m delighted to be associated with this brilliant event and wish the committee every success this coming Valentine’s weekend.”

Once again the event’s main sponsor is Brendan Chambers of Vodafone C&C Cellular together with the other sponsors Abbey Breaffy Nursing Home and Corrib Oil and many businesses from across the county who donate prizes to the ball.
