Lack of footpath and lighting to Behy NS raised

The cathaoirleach of Ballina Municipal District has described the lack of a footpath and public lighting on the road leading to Behy National School as appalling and in urgent need of attention.

Fianna Fail councillor Annie May Reape wants to know where the development levies, collected by the local authority when extensive house building took place along this route, were spent.

She raised the matter at this month’s meeting of Ballina Municipal District and was told by council engineers that to provide a footpath all the way to Behy NS, on the Sligo road, would cost close to one million euro, and that there is no money in place to fund such development.

Undeterred, the cathaoirleach insisted that something needs to be done quickly to address the safety issue in a built up area. She said the development levies imposed on developers in Behy should have been used for essential services in the area such as footpaths and lighting.
