Castlebar councillors to write to RTÉ over ‘sloppy journalism’

Councillors from Castlebar area expressed their disappointment at a Prime Time documentary which according to councillors was a “misleading” programme which misrepresented the volunteer FÁS worker Eddie Hoban.

Chair of Monday’s meeting, Councillor Al McDonnell said that Mr Hoban had provided tremendous service to the town of Castlebar and the onus was on elected representatives of the town to highlight the fact that he was misrepresented and instead deserves recognition as a decent man.

Cllr Johnny Mee said that Mr Hoban was a person of “integrity, honesty, and good character” and said that the “misleading”, “slanted” programme was “poor and sloppy journalism”.

Cllr Paddy McGuinness said that the programme was “lazy, biased journalism” which was made with a “lack of proper investigation”, and he proposed that a letter be sent to the director general of RTÉ condemning the programme, with the letter to also state that the programme was deficient in failing to say that there was no skulduggery involved and that all the money was in fact spent on community projects.
