Child was used to carry stolen clothes from store

A 26-year-old married mother of a week old child, was given a suspended sentence at Castlebar District Court this week after clothing was stolen from Tesco, Castlebar.

On November 1 2008, Eileen McDonagh, Breaffy Road, Castlebar, alongside another woman and a child, entered Tesco, Castlebar, at 2.45pm where they removed clothing to the value of €67.07 from the shelves and placed it in a bag before they proceeded to the checkout and paid for a box of chocolate eclairs. The stolen property was then handed to the child who was with them to carry from the shop.

McDonagh who has previous convictions, was convicted and fined €500 by Judge Mary Devins and sentenced to three months in prison which was suspended for 12 months.
