GMIT launches EU initiative for SMEs

An EU initiative aimed at helping small to medium size enterprises (SMEs ) to be competitive in the global market has been launched in Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology.

The €8m project, titled ‘FutureSME, Framework 7 European Research Project’, will deliver a set of practical tools and methodologies that will assist SMEs to reach and maintain worldwide competitiveness.

It will provide a strategic and operational framework to help companies involved in complex supply chains to optimise their business processes in terms of time, cost, quality, and sustainability.

The EU project has 26 partners from Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. More than 50 per cent of the partners are SMEs with the remainder carrying out research and development. The University of Strathclyde is the overall co-ordinator, while GMIT is responsible for developing environmental and regulatory models and tools.
