Woman released without charge following arrest in relation to sudden death of four month old

Gardaí are investigating the sudden and unexplained death of a 4-month-old baby boy following an incident at a residence in Bohola on December 28 last year have released a woman who had been arrested in connection with the death without charge this morning.

The baby was taken by Ambulance to Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar on December 28 and later removed to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin where he was pronounced dead on the January 1. A post-mortem examination has been carried out by the State Pathologist and a preliminary report has been forwarded to investigating Gardaí. Details of the report are not being released for operational reasons.

A woman aged in her 20s was arrested yesterday (Wednesday, January 11 ) as part of the investigation. She is was  detained at Claremorris Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, before being released without charge on this morning (Thursday, January 12 ) and a file is being prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions
