St Colman's students receive Pope John Paul II awards

Students from St Colman’s College, Claremorris, received their Pope John Paul II awards in Knock Basilica recently. It was a wonderful night of celebration of all the great work done by so many young people across the Archdiocese of Tuam over the past 12 months.

Thirty students from St Colman’s College received the Gold Award while five picked up a Papal Cross Award, the highest accolade achievable, from Archbishop Michael Neary. It was indeed a very proud night for the college and for the families and friends of all the recipients.

The students have been involved in a huge array of activities including the Peer for Peer Programme, a week-long pilgrimage to Lourdes with the Irish Pilgrimage Trust, the VAKS Programme in Knock over the summer, visiting the local nursing homes, preparing liturgies and events in the local parish churches, helping in the Men’s Shed, helping to organise the inaugural Darkness into Light walk in Claremorris for Pieta House, organising the Christmas Shoebox appeal and the St Vincent de Paul food collection in the college, and so much more besides. The genuine spirit of community and collegiality displayed by all the participants has been really wonderful and the college can be justifiably proud of all their achievements. The college thanked the local priests and community leaders all around the area for their help in providing opportunities and facilities for the students to get involved and to use their talents and gifts to help others in so many ways.
