Claremorris Musical Society are ready to tread the boards again

Last weekend Claremorris Musical Society (CMS ) launched its 11th annual production, and this year will be putting on a performance of Me and My Girl. The cast, crew and sponsors came together for a night of celebration and song.

Set in the glamorous 1930s, the plot of Me and My Girl centres around unsophisticated cockney, Bill Snibson who is discovered to be the long lost Earl of Hareford. Bill must satisfy the very proper executors (Maria, Duchess of Dene, and Sir John Tremayne ) by learning how to be a gent in order to gain his fortune.

The duchess thinks that she can make Bill “fit and proper” but not his Cockney girlfriend, Sally Smith, who she aims to remove from the mix. Bill puts on airs and tries to please his new-found upper-class family, but his Lambeth roots quickly begin to show. Chased by the gold digging Lady Jaqueline, he eventually decides to return to Sally and Lambeth, and with the aid of Sir John and his cunning plan, all is well in the end and love prevails.

Filled with toe tappers such as "The Sun Has Got His Hat On", "The Lambeth Walk" and the much loved "Leaning On A Lamp Post", this hillarious comedy is filled with laughter, love, music and dance.

Claremorris Musical Society is delighted to welcome back its production team of Deirdre Lee (musical director ), Hazel McLynn (director and choregrapher ), and June Allison-Keane (producer ). At the official launch, Hazel McLynn spoke of the dedication and commitment given by all those involved in past CMS productions. She thanked the other members of the hardworking production team and looks forward to another year of enthusiasm and energy from the cast and chorus. CMS looks forward to another wonderful few months of rehearsals before taking to the stage in The Town Hall, Claremorris from Thursday, January 25 to Saturday January 28.
