Court sittings must be restored to Ballinrobe - Beverley

Mayo TD Beverley Flynn has called for the immediate restoration of District Court sittings to Ballinrobe. And she has demanded a full and credible explanation from the Court Service for the sudden decision to terminate court hearings in Ballinrobe and transfer them to Castlebar.

“The closure of court sittings in Ballinrobe without notice or warning, is simply unacceptable,” she said. “It is a decision which undermined the status of Ballinrobe and which will have a negative impact on the commercial life of the town,” said Deputy Flynn.

She said that like most towns, Ballinrobe is struggling against the effects of recession, a downturn in economic activity, and a reduction in the level of retail and service activity.

“This appears to be an arbitrary decision by the Court Services with little or no regard for the impact it will have on the town and the wider community. It is a decision which I will do all in my power to have reversed,” she continued.

Dep Flynn said that while a long term decision had been made to eventually transfer the Ballinrobe Court to Claremorris, when a new courthouse was provided there, no indication was given of the abrupt closure announced recently.
