€760k for safety funding for IWAK

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring this week welcomed the announcement of funding in the amount of €760,500 from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport for Ireland West Airport Knock under Funding for Safety and Security Projects at Regional Airports 2015-2019. Minister Ring stated: “This funding is in respect of safety and security projects and are as follows additional fire tender (€535,500 ), fire station extension (€175,500 ), and airfield inspection and control vehicle (€49,500 ).

“This funding is warmly welcomed as it will enhance the features at Ireland West Airport Knock. Ireland West Airport Knock had a very successful year in 2015. In fact in September 2015 it recorded its busiest ever month, with a total of 64,011 passengers passing through the airport terminal,” Minister Ring added. “This funding will greatly contribute to the safety and security for passengers and staff at Ireland West Airport Knock. I wish Ireland West Airport Knock continued success.”

Joe Gilmore, managing director of the airport, said: "We welcome the announcement of funding from Minster Ring which will assist the airport in undertaking important safety and security related projects relating to the upgrading of fire equipment and associated facilities at the airport in the coming months. We acknowledge the continued support from Government and look forward to continuing to work with them on a long term commitment and investment to support the airport’s growth and development plans."
