Claremorris Golf Club host Gaelic games comedy show for worthwhile charity

The Pull, the popular comedy show written by John Corless and Liam Horan of Half Solid Productions, has been confirmed for Claremorris Town Hall for Friday, February 19, at 8.30pm.

Local hosts on the night will be Claremorris Golf Club and the event is in aid of Rock Rose House Mayo Cancer Support. The Pull is a lively comedy set in the fictional town of Ballybore, where the local GAA club claim to pre-date the foundation of the GAA itself by some 130 years.

John Corless, who plays a number of roles in the show, explains the plot: "Things aren’t quite right either in the modern day Ballybore," John says. "Ballybore GAA club are €1,150 in debt and on top of that the club is held in very low esteem locally. The club sets about trying to solve both problems and accidentally decides to pull a truck around their home town to raise money and get themselves in the Guinness Book of Records.”

"Instead of the whole club rallying around the event, matters are left to the usual one or two. Things do not go according to plan. In fact, it might be said that the actual plan itself is not the most convincing instrument ever produced. In the midst of the panic and the unconventional attempts at fundraising, there are a number of other sub-plots for the audience to enjoy."

The Pull is suitable for all ages and runs for two periods of approximately fifty minutes. The show starts at 8.30pm. Admission is €15 with family tickets priced at €40. Tickets can be purchased from club members and at the door on the night.

The event will double as a fundraiser for Claremorris Golf, but the authors are keen to emphasise that any similarities between Ballybore GAA and Claremorris Golf Club is entirely accidental. “Claremorris Golf Club has been a very prominent organisation in the town over many years. Ballybore can only dream of such glory," says John.
