Islandeady boxer Ray Moylette is looking to avenge last year's defeat to Dean Walsh in the National Elite Championships (64kg ) final this evening, when the two boxers meet again in the National Stadium in Dublin. Moylette who is a former World Youth Champion and European Senior Champion lost out last year to the Wexford based boxer on a split decision, which saw Walsh take the title and the boxer of the tournament award after a pulsating battle.
The 21-year-old defending champion is looking for his third National Elite Championship in a row, while Moylette has won this championship once before in 2010, the year before he went on to win the Europen championship in Turkey. After winning last year's championship Walsh went on to claim the European Elite Championship bronze medal earlier this year.
Ahead of this high profile rematch. Speaking to www.iaba.ie this week Walsh admitted after Friday’s split decision over Galway’s James Cleary that it was close, adding that he felt he deserved it. Moylette edged Wayne Kelly on a split 24 hours later to set up the second 64kg final between the Wexford and Mayo duo in 12 months. Moylette admitted that he had to live with the regrets of losing to Walsh but said there would be a different outcome in the rematch.
TG4 will be showing live coverage of this evening's finals with the coverage starting at 7.30pm, the Moylette v Walsh fight is the fifth bout on the card for this evening.
