McHale welcomes €31.1 million investment in Mayo roads

Claremorris Fianna Fáil candidate Gerard McHale has welcomed the announcement of the Government’s investment of €31.1 million in Mayo roads under the regional and local roads programme in 2009.

More than €30 million has been allocated to the Mayo County Council and €287,000 to each of the town councils, in order to fund road improvement and maintenance schemes. €300,000 has been specifically allocated for improvement works on the Claremorris-Cloonfad road, and €15,000 to the Brookhill-Millbrook section of the Claremorris-Ballinrobe road.

Mr McHale welcomed the funding, which was sanctioned by the Minister of Transport Noel Dempsey TD.

“I am delighted with this announcement of over €30 million which again demonstrates the Government’s commitment to improving regional and local roads which are vital to the economy of the local community. The funding will allow for the continued improvement of the regional and local roads network.

“In light of the current economic difficulties it is great to see the Government’s commitment to the local and regional roads programme. Year on year there has been an increase in funding of over €250,000 which once again demonstrates the Government’s commitment to this important programme,” Mr McHale concluded.
