Big three book senior semi-final spots, while Killala reach junior decider

GAA: Club Championship Wrap Up

As the evenings become shorter the action on the field in the club championships in Mayo gets more and more serious. This weekend just gone Breaffy, Castlebar and Ballintubber all booked their places in the semi-final of the senior championship with wins over Garrymore, Aghamore and Ballina Stephenites respectively. The fourth quarter-final which was due to take place this weekend between Knockmore and Kiltane in Ballina was postponed and will now take place next Saturday, October 3 at 5pm in James Stephens Park. The winners of that game will meet Castlebar Mitchels in one semi-final, with the all west Mayo dual of the defending champions Ballintubber and the pretenders to the crown from Breaffy meeting in the other. Those semi-finals are due to take place on Sunday, October 11.

Next Sunday, October 4 will see the meeting of Shrule-Glencorrib and Ballinrobe in the senior championship relegation final, after both sides were beaten by Ballyhaunis and Claremorris respectively. This game is scheduled to throw in at 12pm in Hollymount, with the looser dropping into the ranks of intermediate football for next year.

In the intermediate championship this weekend, Moy Davitts booked their place in the semi-finals with a 1-16 to 1-9 win over Kiltimagh in a quarter-final replay on Saturday night. The Moy Davitts men will now take on The Neale in the first intermediate semi-final at 2pm next Sunday in MacHale Park and that game will be followed by the second semi-final where Belmullett will take on Hollymount-Carramore at 4pm.

The Junior A final pairing was also sorted out this weekend with Killala seeing off Achill in a replay after another epic meeting between the sides in MacHale Park on Sunday Afternoon. The north Mayo men had a point to spare and will no meet Ardnaree in the final in James Stephens Park on Saturday, October 10 at 4pm.

Saturday night next, October 3 sees both the Junior C and Junior B finals down for decision in MacHale Park, the C final will get things going when Kiltimagh B and Moygownagh meet at 6pm, that will be followed by the meeting of Breaffy B and Ballycastle at 7.30pm.
