Triple joy at Mayo General

Three Fitzpatrick sisters from Cloonfad on the Mayo-Roscommon border were celebrating this week after all three of them gave birth to babies on the same day in Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar. The three sisters gave birth to one boy and two girls in a 14 hour period, with Mairead giving birth to Thomás Og at 3.25am, Jolene giving birth to the only girl, baby Sorcha, at 11am, and Bernie giving birth to baby Phelim at 8.30pm. Meanwhile a fourth sister Christina was also due to give birth this week.

Speaking to RTÉ Radio on Wednesday, Mairead said "There’s four girls, there’s five of us altogether in the house, but there was four of us expecting and there’s one brother. I was due on Friday, August 28, while Joeline was actually sectioned, she was booked in for a section yesterday, it was her second baby. Christina is still waiting for her little one, she was due on August 30."
