Battle at the top heats up

Straide and Foxford United v Charlestown Athletic

Saturday, July 25 at 7pm

Now this is a game that neither side can afford to lose if they are to have any chance of dragging themselves out of the relegation zone. Last Sunday saw Ballyglass put six past Charlestown Athletic who fell to their ninth defeat of the season. The host's game against Castlebar Celtic was abandoned after only nine minutes due to a torrential downpour, while they have four points from four draws this season a first win in a must for them tomorrow.

Verdict: Draw

Westport United v Ballyheane

Saturday, July 25 at 7pm

The cream always rises to the top and that is what has happened as the league season passes the half-way mark, Westport United are sitting pretty at the top of the table. Ballyheane find themselves nine points behind their hosts tomorrow evening, out of the running for the title it seems and well out of relegation danger. The Quigley Park men will feel they owe United one after a late comeback saw them steal the points in the reverse fixture.

Verdict: Wesport United

Manulla v Iorras Aontaithe

Saturday, July 25 at 7pm

The hosts fell to a surprise third defeat in the league last weekend when Conn Rangers pulled off a surprise 3-1 win in Mount Falcon, and the Carramore men will be looking to bounce back straight away on Saturday night. The visitors have put together a good recent run of form that has seen them pull clear of relegation danger, it took all of Westport United's efforts to see them off last weekend by the odd goal in seven and they will relish a crack at Manulla.

Verdict: Manulla

Ballyglass v Conn Rangers

Sunday, July 26 at 2.30pm

The central Mayo outfit arrested a recent slump in form last weekend with a 6-2 win over Charlestown Athletic and still find themsleves in the hunt near the top of the table. A few weeks ago this game would have looked like a foregone conclusion, but Conn have hit a purple patch and took a big scalp last weekend against Manulla. But the homeside still have enough you would have to imagine in this one.

Verdict: Ballyglass

Ballina Town v Castlebar Celtic

Sunday, July 26 at 2.30pm

This clash of two of the big three names in Mayo soccer should be a tasty encounter, Ballina Town have slipped back into second place in the table four points behind Westport United, but with a win on Sunday and if they win their game in hand, they will close the gap back to a single point. Celtic have been hit and miss so far this season winning just one more game than they have lost. But they have the players to upset the title chasers.

Verdict: Ballina Town
