Scenic Clare Island set for 10k for Cancer Care West

Any one of the hundreds of people who have taken part in the annual Clare Island 10k run/walk in aid of Cancer Care West, understand what makes it such a unique event.

It starts with the short ferry crossing from Roonagh pier, which provides stunning views of Croagh Patrick, Connemara, and Inis Turk, and continues with a gentle stroll to the island’s community centre where participants register for the 10K and receive an unrivalled welcome from the inhabitants of Clare Island, who give their time and home baking voluntarily to the event.

Tea, coffee, and pre walk/run refreshments are all provided before the race starts at 1pm and again after the race for all registered participants and supporters. The few hills along the 10k route help provide the most stunning island and sea views, and whether you are a runner, looking for a 10k challenge, a walker wanting an incredible scenic walk, or a family in search of an island adventure – this is the event for you.

This year’s Clare Island 10K takes place on Saturday April 18 and there are a limited number of places still available. The entry fee is €38, and this includes return ferry from Roonagh Pier, outside Louisburgh, refreshments before and after the event, water stations throughout the 10K route and race medals. Entry is online at www.cancercarewest.ie and all proceeds from the event are donated to Cancer Care West and the funding of its residential and cancer support services.

Cancer Care West provides support to cancer patients and their families from all over the west of Ireland including counties Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Limerick, Mayo, North Tipperary, Roscommon, and Sligo. All of Cancer Care West’s services are provided at no cost to patients and their families and the charity relies heavily on fundraising and donations to meet the cost of these services.
