Church gate collection for multiple sclerosis

The Multiple Sclerosis church gate collection takes place this weekend, Saturday March 7 and Sunday March 8, at all churches in Mayo. All moneys raised will be spent on the provision of services for people who live with multiple sclerosis in the Mayo area.

Charlestown Athletic 50/50

Last week's Charlestown Athletic FC 50/50 weekly draw held in Walsh's Bar, Charlestown, was won by Rory Gallagher, Cloonfane, who won €621. Shaun Walsh, c/o Walsh's Bar, was the winner of the €20 in-house draw. This week's draw takes place this evening in Johnny Finn's Bar, Charlestown. To enter the draw, simply purchase a 50/50 draw envelope for €2 or you can buy three for €5.

Castlebar Fine Gael meeting

There will be a meeting of Castlebar District Fine Gael on Monday, March 9 in the TF Royal Hotel at 9pm. All Fine Gael members in the Castlebar District voting area are welcome to attend.

Alexander Technique talk

Eastern Rite Liturgy

An Eastern Rite Liturgy will take place in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Sunday March 8 at 2.30pm. A Novena to Saint Sharbel and the anointing with holy oils from the saint’s tomb for all present will take place. For more details call (087 ) 6564738 between 2pm and 4pm.

MS Ireland South Mayo Branch table quiz

A table quiz in aid of the south Mayo branch of MS Ireland will take place in Bar One, Rush Street, Castlebar, starting at 9.30pm. Bar bites will be provided on the night, tables of four cost €40.

Parents’ course in Colaiste Pobail Acla

A six week parenting course, “Common Sense Parenting” , will begin in Colaiste Pobail Acla, Achill, in early April consisting of a two hour session from 10am to 12 noon, on one school day a week. This course facilitated by the HSE is regarded as being of great benefit to all parents, offering practical advice for parents with teenagers. Contact the school on (098 ) 45139 for more details. East Mayo Ramblers

The East Mayo Ramblers Walking Club will launch its ‘Well to Well Challenge Walk’ on Saturday March 14 at 10am in Aghamore. This walk will follow the new 30km extension to the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail from the holy well in Carrownedin, Aghamore, to the well and round tower in Balla through the pilgrimage village of Knock. The walk is a warm up for the ‘Well To Well’ 30km challenge walk on March 27 and 28. The proceeds of the walk will go two local branches of St Vincent de Paul in Ballyhaunis and in Knock. The newly way-marked walk is part of the Mayo Trails network . It is an easy to moderate walk with varying terrain with many historical and geological sites along the way. Arthritis and fibromyalgia walking and adapted Pilates classes in Castlebar

If you have arthritis or fibromyalgia and are living in the Castlebar area why not get a little fitter this spring by joining either the adapted Pilates classes or walking group. Exercise is the best way to help manage pain, increase flexibility, and maintain mobility. It is also a great way to develop better fitness and have some fun. A Wake in the West comes to Balla

Balla will be alive to A Wake in the West, a three act comedy written by Michael Joe Ginnelly, which will be performed in the Community Centre in Balla on Sunday March 8 at 8pm by Claremorris Players Performance Society. Proceeds from the night will go towards Balla No Name Club. Club members will be helping on the night to help ensure that an enjoyable night will be had by all. There will also be a raffle and a guess how many teeth are in the jar. Doors will open from 7pm. Refreshments will be available. Admission is €10 and €5 for students.

Russborough House and the Milltown collection

This Westport Civic Trust illustrated lecture by Dr Aiden O'Boyle will be on Tuesday March 10 at 8pm in the Westport Coast Hotel. Dr O'Boyle will talk about this outstanding Palladian house and the art collection gathered by its original owners that is now in the National Gallery of Ireland. Ballina Active Retirement

Ballina Active Retirement group is to travel to Castleconnor Community Centre this evening to see a play. This starts at 7.30pm. Transport is being arranged. The monthly table quiz is to take place on Wednesday March 25 in the Pastoral Centre, Ballina. The group will gather at 2.15pm ready for a prompt start at 2.30pm. Swimming takes place at the Downhill Sports Centre, and can be any time, any day, whatever suits you. Mat Bowling takes place each Wednesday afternoon in Ballina Sports Centre at 2.30pm. New members are welcome.

The new executive committee are to meet on Monday March 9 in the Pastoral Centre, Ballina, at 2.30pm.
