Seamus Corbett Memorial 8k Carra Classic launched

Last Saturday, the second annual Seamus Corbett Memorial 8k Carra Classic Fun run and walk was officially launched at Carnacon Community Centre. Flying the flag for the sporting community were local icons Cora Staunton and Marie Corbett. Also present were the Corbett family from Moorehall, who sponsor the ladies and gents Shields for the event. They also accepted the request to have the race named after their late husband, father, granddad, and brother. Also present was Fr Michael Farragher and members of the community. An enjoyable evening was had by all.

This year there is an added bonus to the event as it is the third race of the Great Lakes Challenge Series, which starts on February 21 and finishes on April 18. The Carnacon committee promises that this year’s event will be bigger and better than before. Entry to the race stays the same at only €10 and for this participants will get chip timing, goodie bags (for the first 200 home ), and tea, sandwiches, and cakes (to everybody’s liking ). Shower facilities are available in the community centre and ample parking spaces are available around the centre.

Presentation of the Seamus Corbett Memorial Shields will take place after the race to the first male and first female across the line. Prizes also go to the first three male and first three female finishers, the first 50-year old and over finisher and the first 18-year-old and under finisher. All primary school children that complete the 8k will receive a medal.

In addition to the above the main sponsor of the Great Lakes Series, Donal Vaughan of Vaughan Shoes, will sponsor the first male and first female with a voucher for Vaughan Shoes, valued at €100. The event takes place on Saturday March 7 at 12pm.
