World cinema season continues at the Linenhall

The Linenhall Arts Centre’s season of world cinema continues with a screening of the Brazilian coming-of-age film The Way He Looks this Tuesday (February 24 ) at 8pm.

The film tells the story of Leonardo, a blind teenager who feels overprotected by those around him.

At home, his mother will not let him do things by himself, or even be alone, while at school his best friend, Giovana, leaves no room for him to stand up for himself.

Things take an unexpected turn when new student Gabriel arrives to town.

Leonardo gravitates towards him and begins to experience the blossoming of new and intense feelings towards the newcomer.

Set against the backdrop of middle class São Paulo, writer-director Daniel Ribeiro’s debut film features a strong central performance by Ghilherme Lobo as Leonardo.

The Way He Looks was the winner of Best First Feature at the Berlin Film Festival 2014.

The Linenhall Film Club screenings take place every second Tuesday at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar.
