Bust in Ballina uncovers cannabis grow house

The seizure of an estimated €42,000 worth of cannabis plants in Ballina on Sunday (February 8 ) was part of an ongoing intelligence led operation targeting drug suppliers and sellers in the county.

A Garda spokesperson said this week that the operation is using “advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks.”

Gardaí uncovered the plants in a house in Ballina.

They arrested a male in his late 40s at the scene and detained him under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ballina Garda Station.

The male was released without charge late last night and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“These operations use advanced analytical and intelligence methods to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks,” said the Garda spokesperson.

“Drug seizures play a critical role in targeting the livelihood of criminals and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities.

“Drug seizures also help protect communities from the devastating impact of drugs and the associated criminality.”
