Silent Moves month at Ballina Arts Centre

Ballina-made film explores disability through art

The film Silent Moves, which received national acclaim following its launch last November, is being screened this evening and next Friday at Ballina Arts Centre.

Silent Moves is the result of a unique arts project, led by visual artist Aideen Barry, collaborating with performers from Western Care’s Ridgepool Training Centre and Scannán Technologies. Dancer and choreographer Emma O’Kane also worked on the project.

Inspired by the classic silent movies of the 1920s, the half hour film explores some of the challenges of disability as experienced by the people involved in making the film.

The resulting story is full of the very human search for love, independence and adventure.

The film was shot on location around Ballina and features scenes taking place in the Ballina Manor Hotel, Heffernans’ Supermarket (Ardnaree ) and the Tom Ruane Park, as well as on the streets and riverbank of the town.

There is also a visual art exhibition, accompanying the movie and it will run at the gallery until February 28.

Admission is free. The gallery is open daily from 10am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Screenings of Silent Moves take place this evening (Friday ) and next Friday, February 20, starting on the hour from 6 to 9pm each evening.

Admission is free, but booking is advised.
