Ballinrobe writer launches new novel

Well known Ballinrobe novelist and playwright Mick Donnellan has just launched a new crime caper.

The writer, whose play Radio Luxembourgh is currently being made into a film starring Brian Gleeson and Damian Moloney, tells the story of a Ballinrobe criminal peddling villas in Bulgaria in his new novel called Fisherman’s Blues.

Described by Mr Donnellan as ‘dark and audacious’ with a distinct west of Ireland vernacular the novel straddles two genres, part crime noir, part comedy.

This is not the first time Mr Donnellan has plotted his stories around his hometown.

He has enjoyed successful national tours with his production company Truman Town Theatre and his series of plays, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Shortcut to Hallelujah, and Gun Metal Gray, which became known as the Ballinrobe Trilogy.

Mr Donnellan is currently in talks with London production company, Story, to sell the screen rights for his first novel El Nino.
