Local good causes share community fund

Eighteen good causes across the county collected cheques from their local Tesco stores this week as part of the Tesco Community Fund initiative.

The fund sees customers vote for their favourite local good causes to get a share of a €1,000 community fund.

In Ballina, Dolmen Clubhouse, Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua and Behy National School shared the fund.

Over in Ballinrobe, St Joseph’s National School, Green Town Park and Ballinrobe Tidy Towns split the cheque.

In Castlebar, it was Parke Community Centre Hall, Castlebar Celtic Football Club and Castlebar Mitchels Camoige Club.

Meanwhile, in Swinford, the €1,000 fund was shared between Friends of the Willows, Swinford Community Centre and Swinford Autism Group.

In Westport, Westport Dolphins School, Aughagower Community Preschool and Fahy Foroige Club were the beneficiaries.

Every six weeks, three new local and worthy causes are selected in each Tesco store in Mayo to benefit from the fund.

Nationally, the community fund will donate €1 million to good causes across Ireland in 2014.
