Kilmeena performers bringing dark comedy to stage

Kilmeena Drama Group’s rehearsals for The Lonesome West are in full swing.

The award winning, side-splittingly dark comedy is set in Leenane, County Galway, in the 1990s and features the constantly arguing brothers Coleman (Paul Feehan ) and Valene (Pat O’Malley ), whose father has just died in a shotgun ‘accident’.

Coleman is interested in eating, and is an avid funeral attender, keen to collect free vol-au-vents.

Valene, on the other hand, is only interested in his religious ornaments, and drinking poteen supplied by Girleen (Ann Hastings ).

Following their father’s death and the exhortations of the local priest, Father Welsh (Pat Grady ), a new understanding could develop between the brothers. Could, that is, if they could only stop arguing over crisps, religious ornaments, and who left the top off Valene’s marker pen.

Directed by Carole Fabby and produced by Ann Groden, the play will be performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 20, 21 and 22, of in the new community hall in Kilmeena.

Over 12s only. Curtains up at 8pm sharp. Tickets will be available on the door, priced at €10.
