Turlough’s National Museum encourages schools to visit

Mayo’s national museum at Turlough Park has introduced a new online resource to encourage more schools to visit.

The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, which according to Fáilte Ireland recorded just shy of 100,000 visitors in 2013, has launched a new Explore and Learn section on its website to promote its primary and post primary level schools programme.

The museum described the section as a one-stop-shop for teachers interested in visiting the museum.

It provides information about planning a trip to the museum, pre-visit preparation, activities on the day, and ideas and resources for the classroom.

The schools programme for 2014/2015 sees a selection of special events scheduled at the museum throughout the school term, as well as a range of tours and workshops delivered by museum staff.

Highlights of this year’s programme include writing and nature workshops; debating events; Science Week events; and a Leaving Certificate art revision day.
