SPC committee positions handed out to councillors

The elected member make up of the six Strategic Policy Committees of Mayo County Council was confirmed at Monday’s October meeting of the local authority. All 30 councillors must serve on at least one of the committees. The chairs of the committees had been divvied out between the different political groupings at the council’s inaugural meeting in July. The position of chairperson had an allowance of €6,000 in 2013

The housing committee which is chaired by Independent councillor Gerry Ginty, will be joined by Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Annie May Reape and Cllr Blackie Gavin, Fine Gael’s Cllr Henry Kenny and John Cribben, Sinn Féin’s Cllr Gerry Murray and Independent councillor Richard Finn.

The cultural committee which is chaired by Fine Gael’s Cllr Jarlath Munnelly, he will be joined by Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Blackie Gavin and Cllr John Caulfield, Fine Gael’s Cllr Theresa McGuire and Cllr John Cribben, Sinn Féin’s Cllr Therese Ruane and Independent Cllr Richard Finn.

The roads committee is chaired by Cllr Annie May Reape and she is joined by Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Brendan Mulroy and Cllr Damien Ryan, Fine Gael’s Cllr Cyril Burke and Cllr Patsy O’Brien, Sinn Féin’s Cllr Rose Conway Walsh and Independent Cllr Seamus Weir.

The economic development committee is chaired by Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne and he’s joined by Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Lisa Chambers and Cllr Al McDonald, Fine Gael’s Cllr Tom Connolly and Cllr Neil Cruise, Sinn Féin councillor Rose Conway Walsh, and Independent councillor Christy Hyland.

The environmental committee is chaired by Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Smyth and he will be joined by party colleagues, Cllr Al McDonnell and Cllr Paul McNamara, Fine Gael’s Cllr Tom Connolly and Cllr Neil Cruise, Sinn Féin councillor Gerry Murray and Independent councillor Michael Holmes.

The final committee covers tourism and food and is chaired by Fine Gael councillor Gerry Coyle, he is joined by Fianna Fáil’s Cllr Michael Loftus and Cllr John Caulfield, Fine Gael’s Cllr John O’Hara and Jarlath Munnelly, Sinn Féin councillor Therese Ruane and Independent councillor Jarlath Munnelly.
