Jimmy Cullen, who works in Tesco Ballina, has been named the winner of the Service Superstar category of the 2014 Tesco Ireland Values Awards, it has been announced. This is the third year of the Tesco Ireland Values Awards, which took place at a special ceremony in the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Dublin on Wednesday, July 2. The awards recognise excellence amongst Tesco staff and employees are nominated by colleagues in 10 different categories for their notable contributions to communities across Ireland.

RTE’s Brian Ormond was on hand to MC the ceremony and to present the awards to winners and over 250 Tesco employees were in attendance.

Tesco Ireland CEO, Phil J Clarke, said “Tesco employs some 15,000 people nationally and our colleagues are committed to treating every store and every community as if it is the only store and only community in which we operate. These awards showcase the exceptional contributions of Tesco staff in this regard, as recognised by the colleagues they work with every day. I applaud the ongoing commitment, dedication and passion of our colleagues across Ireland.”

Jimmy Cullen joined Quinnsworth in 1980 after training to become a butcher. He has built up a very loyal customer base in Ballina over the last 34 years and has done this by gaining the trust of the people who shop in the store. He is widely recognised as a great ambassador for the fresh home-grown products that Tesco produces for customers. “It’s a great honour to receive this award,” Jimmy Cullen said. “It’s very rewarding to be recognised by colleagues in this way and I thank them for their support. On a daily basis, I believe it is about understanding the shoppers who come through our doors and that is our focus here in Tesco Ballina – it’s all about giving the customer what they want.”
