Junior event — Family Life in the Past

Join Lorna Elms of the Education and Outreach Department to explore family life in the past through role-play and art activities. Wednesday January 14 from 4pm to 5pm.

Drop-in event — The Knitting Circle.

Exchange patterns, learn new techniques, bring along your knitting and join in. Friday January 16 from 11pm to 1pm.

Drop in event — Rocks from Space — hold them in your hands!

Visit the temporary exhibition "Planet Earth Our Place in Space". Get to hold meteorites and see them through a microscope with Matthew Parkes, the museum's geologist. First come first served basis. Sunday January 18 from 2pm to 5pm.

Images of the People — Everyday Life in Irish Art from the 19th Century to World War Two

An exploration of the lives of people in the Irish countryside, looking at their dress, houses, furniture and tools as portrayed in paintings and drawings of the period, led by Dr John Mulloy, GMIT. Friday January 23 from 2pm to 4pm.

Embroidery for Beginners

Try this one day embroidery course given by Aileen Johnston and inspired by the museum’s own embroidery collection. Saturday January 24 from 10am to 5pm.

St Brigid's Girdle

Join Melanie Lorien and learn about St Brigid's girdle and many other customs associated with St Brigid in this hands-on workshop. Thursday January 29 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

Astronomy Ireland Sky Watch

Venus to Blaze Next to Moon! To celebrate this celestial spectacle Astronomy Ireland will be setting up powerful telescopes all across Ireland to give close up views of the conjunction of Venus and the crescent Moon. Friday January 30 from 6pm to 8pm.

Connacht Textile Crafters – Introduction to Silk

Come along to meet the group or join them for the day by bringing your own knitting, crochet, felting, etc. Saturday January 31 from 11am to 4pm.

Exploring Ceramics

Join Lisa Fahy for this junior workshop. View the museum’s ceramic collection and get to make your own design.Thursday January 8 from 4pm to 5pm.

Mad about Meteorites!

Join Matthew Parkes, the museum’s geologist on a journey back to the beginning of the solar system. Discover what makes people so passionate about meteorites. Wednesday January 14 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
