Mayo hardware retailers gear up for what they hope will be a buoyant summer

Mayo’s hardware retailers are preparing for what they hope will be a buoyant summer in terms of DIY, home improvement and construction activity.

As part of this, representatives from a number of Mayo Homevalue stores attended the annual Associated Hardware trade show last month, where over 80 Irish and international suppliers generated almost €2 million in sales as they showcased thousands of products.

Associated Hardware Plc represents more than 40 independent home and garden retailers and builders’ merchants, all trading under the Homevalue brand and employing approximately 750 people in 22 counties.

Speaking at the trade show, Richard Cummins, owner of Cummins Homevalue in Ballinrobe and in Claremorris, said: “This year’s trade show was a particularly important component for our Homevalue store as we sought to source the highest quality and best value products for our customers in anticipation of what we hope will be a buoyant summer in terms of DIY, home improvement and construction activity. We were very excited by the engagement demonstrated by retailers and suppliers showing that, despite the challenging environment, the hardware sector is gradually stabilising and, in some areas, showing signs of recovery.”

Homevalue has 40 stores across Ireland, including seven stores in Mayo.
