Big weekend of golf coming up over Bank Holiday weekend

Balla

Last weekend’s stableford competition which was sponsored by Bar One, was won by Fenton Barrett who scored 41pts, second place went to Eamonn Donnellan with 39pts and Seamus Holian came home in third with a score of 37pts. The ladies’ section was won by Mary B O’Donnell who finished with 38pts, Geraldine Kilgallon finished in second place on 36pts, and Gabriella Clesham in third one point behind.

Ballinrobe

Declan Flaherty was the winner of the Ryder’s Pharmacy sponsored stableford competition with a score of 38pts. Willie Connolly finished in second place and Eamon Higgins third. The gross prize was won by Aaron D’Arcy, with the category prize going to Ian Reilly. The ladies’ competition was won by Sheila Molloy who scored 39pts, Angela Murphy finished in second place, and Ann Tracey came home in third place. Ballina

The ladies’ competition sponsored by Caffery’s Gallery and Framing last weekend was won by Josephine O’Hora who scored 42pts, Claire Cooke finished in second place five points behind and third went to Ann Cawley

Castlebar

Shane Rice was the winner of last weekend’s Abbeybreaffy Nursing Home competition with a round of 64, he finished ahead of Denis Gallagher in second place and Padraig Corrigan in third. The gross prize went to Eoin Lisibach, with the junior competition going to Cathal Hastings, with Ryan Timlin finishing second and Brian Connolly making the longest drive.

Claremorris

John Killeen was the winner of Hillside Services competition with a score of 68 nett. His back nine play kept him in front of Alan Burke in second place, and Martin Higgins came home in third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Yvonne Oldham who scored 33pts, Noreen McHugh finished in second, and the nine hole competition was won by Margaret Flannery.

Cairde Maigh Eo classic

The Cairde Maigh Eo classic held in Westmanstown in Dublin last Friday saw a good turn out with 38 teams taking park. The team of Joe Gavin, John Buckley, Brendan McKevitt, and Tom Coughlan (sponsored by Louis Ruane of Senator Windows ) took home first place with a score of 91pts. Second place went to Noel McLoughlin (sponsor ), Walter Hackett, Paddy Davey, and Ferguson Doggett.

The large attendance were addressed by the society captain, Sean McNamara, Mayo County Board chairman, Paddy McNicholas, and a very successful auction was chaired by Noel McLoughlin who successfully raised more than €1,700 on the night for two Liam Jones paintings, framed golf shirts of Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley, All Ireland tickets, and a football signed by all the Mayo players.

Mulranny

This weekend sees an AM AM club fundraiser taking place, with teams of four costing €100 and teams can play any time over the weekend from today Friday May 2 until Bank Holiday Monday May 5. Contact Breda at 086 37622200 to arrange a tee time. Vinny Gannon was the winner of last weekend’s singles stableford competition, Martin McLoughlin finished in second place, Joe McNamara came home in third spot.

Swinford

The gents’ 18 hole stableford competition was won by Michael Walsh who scored 42pts, Ron Hawke finished in second place, and David Ronyane finished in third place. In the ladies’ Betty Casserly Cup last weekend, Catherine Loftus was the winner with a score of 72 nett, Annie McNeela finished in second, and Patricia Feeney was the third place finisher.

Westport

There will be open competitions over the open Bank Holiday weekend, entry costs €25 for visitors and €7 for members. The closing date for the return of matchplay forms is fast approaching and members are asked to get them filled out.
