Last weekend’s stableford competition was sponsored by Horkans Garden Centre and McGrath Waste. Tom Jennings was the winner of the gents’ section with a score of 40pts, his back nine play saw him keep ahead of Adrian O’Connell who finished in second place, and Bert Eagleton finished in third place. The ladies’ section was won by Geraldine O’Malley who scored 40pts, Julie Loftus finished in second place, and Geraldine Kilgallon came home in third.
Michael Horan was the winner of the Cora McGarry Ladies wear sponsored competition with a score of 42nett, with Anthony Cunnane finishing in second place and Derek Walshe coming home in third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Angela Grogan who scored 46pts and Marina Coyne finished in second place three points behind.
Last weekend saw the Baxter Healthcare Am-Am take place from Thursday to Sunday. The winners were the foursome of Tom Moylett, Ian Brennan, John McHale, and Frank Murray who scored 109pts. Second place was taken by Tom Cresham, Ian Smith, Gerry Daly, and Frank Murray. The ladies’ prize was won by the team of Sheila Baynes, Carmel Moran, Bernie Burke, and Ann Gallagher. The visitors’ prize was claimed by Paddy Donoghue, Jim Carmeron, Colin Cameron, and Pat Murphy from Westport Golf Club.
McHugh’s Spar in Ballindine sponsored last weekend’s competition in Claremorris. Noel Crean was the winner with a score of 42pts and Ann Moran took the ladies’ win with a score of 28pts. The category prizes in the gents’ section were won by Colin Sheridan, James Lyons, Kenneth Kelly, and Joe Flaherty, and the ladies’ nine hole was taken by Hannah Grant.
Strandhill Golf Club was the first to support Mulranny’s fundraising campaign. Mulranny has launched a fundraising campaign by writing to all golf clubs in the country appealing for help in its efforts to raise substantial funds which will be needed to safeguard the course if and when the winter storms next hit the western seaboard. The coastal barriers need urgent strengthening to prevent another disaster. It has been suggested to clubs that they might consider organising a competition and give the proceeds to Mulranny. Strandhill has been the first club to come on board and recently ran a very successful rumble.

On the May Bank Holiday weekend, Mulranny will be running a fundraising Am Am. Teams of four cost €100 and a time sheet is available by contacting 087 6198188.
There were two competitions in Westport over the Easter weekend with Richard Hughes from Galway Golf Club winning the Saturday competition with a score of 43pts, John Gibbons finished in second place, and Rory O’Donnell from Miltown Golf Club finished in third place. The Sunday competition was won by Ross Laydon from Powerscourt Golf Club, Conor Bolger finished in second place, and John O’Donoghue came home in third. Dara O’Neil recorded the first hole-in-one of the new season on the third hole last week. Open days take place every Wednesday and entry costs €25, the Hughes Cup qualifier will take place this Sunday.
