Dance can boost health and wellbeing for children and teens

Getting your child interested and passionate about dance could deliver huge health rewards as well as benefiting children and teenagers socially and mentally.

That is according to Aine Egan, creator and choreographer of Danceworld, Ballina, one of the largest and most successful dance academies in the west of Ireland.

The academy and stage school now enrols more than 250 dancers, offering classes in Ballina, Belmullet, Castlebar, Claremorris, and Westport.

Danceworld has fast established itself as a leader in the provision of entertainment and talent.

However, as well as the obvious benefits of learning to dance, having fun, and being a good outlet for children and teens’ boundless energy, dancing can also help children and young adults boost their self-esteem, build confidence, and develop the skills necessary to be successful in today’s world.

“We strive to implement what is most important in society today, which is to help our young people,” said Ms Egan.

”Our goal is to improve overall cardiovascular health, improve social and communicative skills through teamwork, develop a sense of trust and cooperation, and help our students make new friends and alleviate fears related to performing in front of crowds.

“Our classes have educational benefits too as it requires practice, discipline, focus, and skills that are useful in other areas in a child's life.

“We encourage young people to foster a more positive attitude and explore their own self expression in a safe environment. Our motto here at Danceworld is ‘it's not just a movement...but a way of life’.”

Danceworld also has a proven track record of teaching to the highest standards and remaining ahead of evolving trends in entertainment, fashion, music, styles of dance, and attitude.

In May 2014, Danceworld is running introductory hip-hop classes in all locations. The classes are for boys and girls aged from five to 13 years in different styles of dance including hip-hop, locking, musical theatre, breakdancing, and house.
