Visual art, Excerpts from the Art and Extinction Series

Custom House Studios, Westport, opens this evening

Custom House Studios is presenting an exhibition of paintings Excerpts from the Art and Extinction Series by Diarmuid Delargy. The exhibition will be formally opened by author Eoin McNamee at the Custom House Studios Gallery, Westport Quay,  this evening (Friday ) at 7.30pm.

Delargy has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally in Las Vegas, New York, San Francisco, Paris, and Berlin.

Drama, A Wake in the West,

Glór na dTonn, Currane, Achill, Saturday, April 12

Currane Drama Group present A Wake in the West in Glór na dTonn, Currane, Achill.

The Michael Joe Ginnelly drama is onstage tomorrow (Saturday ) and again on Friday April 18.

Curtain goes up both nights at 8.30pm and admission is €10. Tickets are on sale at Achill Sound Post Office, Brett’s Stores, Achill Sound, and the Compass Bar, Currane. All proceeds in aid of local community facilities and services.

Choral music, Moy Singers Springtime Concert

Hotel Ballina, Saturday, April 12

The Moy Singers are holding their springtime concert in Hotel Ballina tomorrow at 8pm.

Guest artist for the performance is Sean Keane with organisers promising a “wonderful evening of music and song”.

Tickets are available from Caffreys, Garden Street, Ballina, and Hotel Ballina at the door on the night.

Quizzing, Mayo SPCA fundraiser

The Hazel Bar, Ballyhaunis, Saturday April 12

In order to help pay veterinary costs for rescued animals, a quiz night will be held tomorrow, April 12, at 9pm, at the Hazel Bar, Ballyhaunis. Tables of four cost €10 per person. There will be a raffle and prize for the winning table. All of the proceeds will be used to help animals in Co Mayo.

All support would be much appreciated.

Clare Island Community Waves Session, an exhibition of the very best of Clare Island music, song and dance, takes place on Sunday from 2.30pm to 5.30pm in Matt Molloy's Yard Bar, Westport.

Show, Kiltaine Strictly Come Dancing

Kiltaine GAA Community Complex, Saturday, April 12

Kiltaine Strictly Come Dancing takes place tomorrow (Saturday ) in the Kiltaine GAA Community Complex in Bangor Erris. The doors open at 8 pm and the show starts at 9 pm. Music afterwards is by Avalon Band and Disco. Tickets, priced at €15, are available on the door.  

All proceeds will go Kiltaine GAA and Bangor National School

In local cinemas, Calvary

The highly anticipated black comedy Calvary, from the writer and director of 2011’s The Guard, is now showing in local cinemas.

Starring Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd, Kelly Reilly and Aiden Gillen, the film was very well received when it had its world premier at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in January.

Claremorris born Patrick Cassidy composed the film’s musical score.
