The official opening of the state-of-the-art athletics track in Claremorris will be performed on Sunday by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring.
The Claremorris track is a 400-metre, eight-lane, facility, which was laid out by the same experts who worked on the Olympic tracks in London and Beijing.
More than €1.6 million has now been invested at the athletics venue in Claremorris, providing top class indoor and outdoor track facilities.
Jim Ryan, treasurer of the Claremorris Athletics and Sport Club Ltd, said the new facilities have created huge potential for the town to attract teams in training and major competition events.
The club received a €400,000 sports capital grant to develop the outdoor track in 2012.
Minister Ring will be at Claremorris Athletics Club at 2.30pm on Sunday.
