Tourist charged with careless driving

A man from New York who was holidaying in Ireland was convicted of careless driving at Castlebar District Court last Wednesday—the day he was catching his flight back to America.

Charles Brady, 3 Reid Avenue, Babylon, New York pleaded guilty to careless driving on December 16 in the Foxford area at 7.35pm, which led to a traffic accident.

Defending solicitor Rory O’Connor outlined that in a statement given to gardaí by Brady he said that after taking a wrong turn he proceeded to do a U turn, however, after completing the manoeuvre the defendant was on the right-hand side of the road, as he was accustomed to in America.

While he was on the right-hand side of the road a car approached and there was a collision. Brady was convicted and fined €200 by Judge Aeneas McCarthy.
