Green candidate calls for fracking ban in Mayo

Mayo County Council could follow the example set by its counterparts in Leitrim County Council recently, by banning fracking from the county, according to Green Party local election candidate in the Claremorris area, Margaret Sheehan.

The controversial method of shale gas extraction, otherwise known as hydraulic fracturing, has now been outlawed in Leitrim as part of the county development plan.

“With the political will to make this a priority, we could easily do the same in Mayo,” said Ms Sheehan.
