Internationally acclaimed acts for Ballina Arts Centre

A bluegrass music legend from the US is set to perform at the Ballina Arts Centre this February.

The National Blackwell Bluegrass Band, led by Curtis Blackwell, will come to the Moyside venue on Saturday, February 1, at 8pm.

Blackwell has been captivating audiences for 40 years with his powerful voice, which has earned him a place in the Atlanta Country and Bluegrass Hall of Fame.

He is a former member of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys.

He has performed on the Grand Ole Opry and travelled extensively throughout the eastern US performing at many of the historic Bluegrass festivals there.

The arts centre has also announced a second internationally acclaimed act for February 22.

Signs of a Diva, by UK-based Graeae Theatre Company, is a one-woman show with Caroline Parker, known as ‘Britain’s favourite deaf diva’.

All performances include signed songs, captioned text, and audio description.

“The show is full of classic songs by well-known divas. The songs are given a fresh twist for those who can’t hear and who may be discovering the songs for the first time,” said Sean Walsh, of the Ballina Arts Centre.

Those who can hear will see the songs in a new light, he added.

Signs of a Diva is presented in partnership with Arts and Disability Ireland, with support from the British Council and Xilinx.
