Winter competitions and leagues in full swing

Balla

Last weekend’s stableford competition in Balla was won by Martin Moylette with a score of 39pts, he held off the challenge of Joe Healy and Pat Mohan who finished in second and third place respectively, just one point behind him. The ladies’ competition was won by Gabrielle Clesham on 36pts, with Rose O’Connor second and Breege Moran in third.

Ballina

PJ Ruddy, John Slater, Sean McDonagh, and Pat Devaney on a score of 53.5 won the first round of the Winter League. The league will continue this Sunday with a shotgun start at 9am, there are 120 golfers competing in the league in teams of four, and teams may count their best two cards out of three to qualify for the final or plate. The captain’s dinner will be held in the clubhouse on Friday November 15, contact the office on 096 21050 for tickets.

Ballyhaunis

Tony Greenan was the winner in week one of the Winter League with a score of 41pts, Shane Freeman came home in second place. The ladies’ section was won by Fiona Prenty with a score of 36pts, with Norrie Dillon coming home in second place.

Castlebar

Frank Murray was the winner of the club 15 hole stableford competition last weekend on count-back from John Kelly after both men finished on 39pts. The ladies had a 13 hole competition and Breta Fitzmaurice was the winner with a score of 31pts, with Cora Mulroy in second place. The club AGM will take place this coming Monday, November 11 at 8pm in the clubhouse.

Claremorris

Round four of the Winter League was won by Kevin McDonagh last weekend with a score of 33pts, Joe Diskin came home in second place and Kenneth Kelly finished in third place, with the ladies’ win being taken by Riana Kean on 26pts.

Mulranny

Paddy Chambers and Richard Keane claimed the Mulranny fourball title with a hard fought win over Colin Cooney and Eugene Patten in second place last weekend. The Autumn Cup singles final scheduled for this week should be a good shootout between Colm O’Neill and John Moran when both men step up to the tee. In round two of the Winter League with the team of Breda Gilvarry, Angela Moran (sub for Helen Walker ), Joe Bourke and Peter Shanley took the win in the round with a score of 94pts.

Westport

Last weekend’s Winter League saw the team of J Goggins, J Keane, J Kavanagh, and S Goggins take the front nine win, with P McNally, A O’Toole, S Cannon, and JF O’Malley winning the back nine section. The most recent senior gents 14 hole scramble was won by the team of K McGloin, P O’Donoghue, M Reddington, and J Gavin.
