Garda Ombudsman starts investigation into Shell booze claims

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has started an investigation into allegations that OSSL, a subcontractor for Shell, delivered €29,500 worth of alcohol to Belmullet Garda Station at Christmas time 2007 on behalf of the oil giant. The Ombudsman has begun its investigation following the forwarding of information to it by Swinford-based Superintendent Tom Murphy.

Reacting to the news by way of a statement the Corrib Gas developers said, “ Shell E&P Ireland Limited (SEPIL ) welcomes the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC ) investigation into OSSL’s allegations. In recent weeks, SEPIL provided information to Supt Murphy’s examination and will also co-operate fully with GSOC’s forthcoming investigation. These allegations have dragged on for a long period and SEPIL trusts that GSOC’s involvement will bring this matter to an end.”
