Westport pubs win at Licensing World Bar Awards 2013

Westport’s leading public houses, The Porter House, Bridge Street, Westport, and Cosy Joe’s, Bridge Street, Westport, owned by Joe O’Malley won awards at the Licensing World Bar Awards. The Porter House won The Best Local Bar of The Year and Cosy Joe’s won Best Entertainment Bar of The Year.

These prestigious awards are given to the premises judged to be the premier hospitality establishments in Ireland. An initial screening process involved an unannounced visit by the judging panel which resulted in The Porter House and Cosy Joe’s being short listed for these major awards, and last week they won both categories outright. The Licensing World Bar Awards are an all-Ireland awards programme dedicated to highlighting and rewarding excellence within the licensed trade. Winning a bar award informs customers that the premises rate among the best bars in the country, and communicates that the publican is dedicated to service, staff training, ambience, the best in food and drink, and provides an excellent customer focused destination.

Proprietor Joe O’Malley said he was “ecstatic at winning two such major awards” and he added that it was a recognition of all the hard work performed by his dedicated team of staff throughout the year and they intended to maintain the high standard they have now set themselves.
