Flu vaccine now available from pharmacists

Members of the public can now receive this year's seasonal flu vaccination service from pharmacists. The service is available free of charge from pharmacists to those in an at risk group who hold a medical card. At risk groups include elderly people, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses.

Rory O'Donnell, president of the Irish Pharmacy Union said, “Flu is an extremely contagious respiratory illness and can be serious, even fatal, particularly for patients with serious health conditions such as asthma, heart disease, diabetes or a weakened immune system. Flu vaccination is the best way to reduce the chances that a patient will get seasonal flu and spread it to others. We are encouraging as many people as possible to visit a pharmacist and get vaccinated.”
