Erris Enterprise Week suspended following Corrib fatality

Erris Enterprise Week, which was scheduled to take place this week, was postponed as a mark of respect for the employee of German subcontractor Herrenknecht AG, who was fatally injured in the Corrib tunnel at Aughoose last Sunday.

The 26-year-old mechanical fitter was named as Lars Wagner from Ofenburg in southern Germany. There was widespread shock in the Erris region on Sunday after news of Mr Wagner’s death spread.

Operations were immediately suspended at the tunnelling site and a full coordinated investigation has been launched into the incident.
