One stop shop LEO office should be downtown—Cllr Henaghan

Castlebar town councillor Brendan Henaghan has called for the new Local Enterprise Offices to be located in downtown Castlebar.

Cllr Henaghan said: “This new body is going to be one of the most important organisations for the future of our town and county. The county council are calling this new project a one-stop-shop for enterprise and innovation. The best place for a shop is downtown for maximum interaction and visibility.”

The councillor added: “Interaction with state agencies and innovation are exactly what’s needed now to encourage potential entrepreneurs to set up business and provide employment.”

Speaking about employment in Castlebar, Cllr Henaghan welcomes the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce public meeting which will be held next week on the jobs crisis. He said that Castlebar Town Council provided €10,000 in this year’s budget to promote Castlebar as a jobs destination. The councillor would also like to see a quarterly enterprise magazine brought out in conjunction with the launch of LEO to promote enterprise and innovation culture in Mayo. Finally, he said that one of the best opportunities for jobs lies in linking with GMIT and IIBC Castlebar. “Forty seven graduates from technology courses in GMIT Castlebar all got full employment, most locally. We have educational facilities, vacant industrial space, and a town that is very desirable to live in.”
