Petworld Furry 5K raises money for local animal welfare charities

Petworld’s Furry 5K, an annual sponsored dog walk now in its third year, took place on August 18 and was a roaring success, raising more than €9,000 for seven animal welfare charities across Ireland.

The Furry 5K took place in Petworld stores in Castlebar, Galway, Athlone, Mullingar and Portlaoise. More than 300 people participated, with many also walking dogs from the charities so they could be in on the action too. Goody bags, provided by Hill’s Science Plan Pet Foods, were available to all who took part.

Mayo, Galway, and Laois SPCAs all benefited, as did Friends of Animals Mullingar, Dr Homes Moate Dog Rescue, East Galway Animal Rescue and MADRA. They will spend their funds on rescuing and improving the lives of as many animals as possible, and reducing the number of cats and dogs being euthanised.

Having raised so much money this year, there are already plans in the pipeline to make the walk even bigger and better next year. For more information, see petworlddirect.ie
